Varsity Try-outs
Date and Time: Varsity tryouts are August 1st-August 2nd. from 7am-10:30 am. Actual time will be determined later but it will be in that 31/2 hour time slot. Dress: Returning players should be in black shorts, black socks on both days of try-outs. We will wear Sanderson white tees on Monday and grey tees on Tuesday. All new players should wear dark shorts, dark socks and light shirt. Number of Players: We will have 16-20 players on the Varsity team.
Junior Varsity Try-outs
Date and Time: The following are the other day of try-outs: Monday August 1st-August 3rd from 7:00am-10:30am. Coach Hood has the discretion to add days to the tryout period. Practice will begin the day after tryouts from 7:00am-10:30am we practice Monday-Friday every week Dress: Returning players should be in black shorts, black socks on both days of try-outs. We will wear Sanderson white tees on Monday and grey tees on Tuesday. All new players should wear dark shorts, dark socks and light-colored shirt. Number of Players: We will have 16-20 players on the Junior Varsity team.
Who try-outs for Varsity?
Varsity try-outs are for juniors and seniors and those sophomores and freshman that we feel may be ready for Varsity. Coach Worley and Coach Hood will decide which players that we will invite to try-out for Varsity. The only sophomores who will be eligible for varsity try-outs the first day are those who have played Varsity as a freshman. No freshmen will be trying out for Varsity on the first day. We will use Monday's try-outs and observations from the summer to form an opinion on who will be asked to move up to Varsity tryouts.
Which players make Sanderson Varsity?
The Sanderson varsity soccer team is a team that will have the best soccer players in the school in terms of technical and tactical ability. This is a competitive team whose ultimate goal is to win a State Championship. This team will practice or have a game almost every weekday from August 1st through mid-November. There are no guarantees as to who will make this team. Not all players who play Junior Varsity will make Varsity. In addition to technical and tactical ability, athleticism, attitude, speed and the ability to play within a team structure will also be considered. Finally, the player must be physically able to handle the grind of the season. Most Varsity players are 17 and 18 years old. It is an unusual player who demonstrates all of these attributes in order to play Varsity during his freshman and sophomore years.

The Sanderson junior varsity has two main goals each year, which are to win as many games as possible and to build players for the Varsity team. This team is for younger (freshman and sophomore) competitive soccer players who are serious about soccer and working toward being a Varsity player some day. Players will be selected based on technical ability, tactical ability, athleticism, attitude, technical and tactical speed and the ability to play within a team structure. We will find the best freshmen and sophomores who fulfill the criteria listed to chose the best team possible.
